                           Minutes of Eagle Pride

                              February 20, 2007

 

 

Mrs. Sandor greeted parents and students.  The meeting was started with a prayer.

 

The first speaker of the evening was Mr. Jim Carroll.  He is the Head Coach of the 7th and 8th grade football team.  He shared with the group some of his coaching philosophy when working with the team members.  He reminded all present that “Jesus is the reason for our school.”  The team incorporates daily prayer and reflections on how Jesus would act into the team’s decision making processes.  Mr. Carroll said, “That success is not just measured by the number of wins, but also the determination of the students and academic success.”  He shared that Saint John the Baptist has not had a student quit the team since he has been coach.  The Eagles have been Diocesan champions three out of the six years he has coached here at SJB.  The 7th and 8th grade teams have won 33 games in a row.  Outstanding!  Bravo, to Coach Carroll and your assistant coaches and all team players.

 

Mrs. Sandor shared some reflections regarding the teaching staff at Saint John the Baptist.  She commented that the staff is a dedicated and professional group of individuals  and are providing a high quality Catholic Education.  Mrs. Sandor also introduced this year’s Light of Learning Recipient, Mrs. Gail Welling. 

 

Mrs. Sandor introduced the students from STAND (Students Take Action Now Darfur)  Loren Holman, Jennifer Lee and McKenna Kruse were present to heighten awareness regarding the conflict and genocide associated with the area.  Currently, the organization is planning a candlelight vigil on March 9, 2007 and a food and personal hygiene donation for people of the region.

 

Next, Mrs. Sandor introduced Billy McManus, Emily Hayes and Sarah Beal.  These three students participated in the Future Cities Competition held at IPFW.  The students shared their presentation on the city of Electropolis as was presented to the judges of the competition.

Mrs. Sandor then asked student representatives from each floor to provide some of their insights on their experiences here at Saint John the Baptist school.  Alex Stronczek, AnneMarie Shank, Zelda Miller, Sarah Miller, Enzo Possemato, Angelina Possemato and Mary Lee represented the various student floors.  Reflections regarding Arts and Enrichment presentation by Abraham Lincoln were shared.  Comments regarding Exchange City what it is and who participated was discussed.  The younger children discussed topics that they were currently focusing on such as the calendar and Pigging Out on Books.

 

Mrs. Sandor introduced Mrs. Kelly Lee.  Kelly described some changes to the SCRIP program related to Kroger.  A brief discussion as to whether to offer SCRIP sales in the evening was proposed.

 

Mrs. Sandor identified some of the extra activities that will be occurring at the school during the season of Lent such as Disciples on a Journey, Rice Bowl, Station of the Cross.  Finally, she concluded the meeting with some discussion regarding the School Improvement Plan (SIP).  Mrs. Sandor indicated a main focus of the plan is on writing across the curriculum.  She stated that we are incorporating the Appleseed Writing Program here at SJB.  The key to this program is its focus on thought process not just a correct answer, but the best answer.   This program helps an individual to move from right/wrong answer philosophy to more application.
