Dear families,
According to the calendar, Fall has officially arrived. That
is a sure sign our school year has become part of our daily routine. While
supervising recess, I pay close attention to nature and how nature provides us
with consistent reminders of the cycle of life.
The beginning of the school year is evidenced in the green leaves,
slightly tired looking grass, intense sunshine and heat. As we enter the month
of October, our Great Painter brings out His paintbrush and the palette of
color begins to tint the edges of the green leaves. Tired grass begins weaving
its winter blanket to warm the earth. Brilliant sunshine with its warmth casts
a golden hue with longer shadows etching new, elongated shapes across the
parking lot. Children clad in shorts and sweatshirts talk of bonfires, the end
of the lake season and spin tales of the most awesome Halloween costume. Yes,
Fall has arrived.
In many ways Fall
signifies the return to a simpler, quieter, more reflective time.
Technological advances
have brought much of the world to our fingertips through the internet. Now, we
can travel back in time on a virtual tour of the 1800’s, climb the great
pyramids or jettison into the next century. Whatever we want, we think, we dream,
can be found. Personally, I find this troublesome.
What has happened to the lazy summer evenings
of sitting on the porch listening to a crackling radio with a shouting
sportscaster yelling, “It’s outta here!”? What has happened to sitting on the sidewalk
studying a yellow and black striped caterpillar inch its way up your arm? When
was the last time we stopped to hear rain tickle the flowers or a cricket
become a chorus? These are not rhetorical questions. They are Fall questions.
We need to reflect and return to the basics. As leaves change, float to the
ground and crunch under our feet, we need to slow our speed in life.
In many ways, our family
defines who we are, what we believe, what we achieve, what we need and what we
have to offer to others and ourselves. This year, we are focusing on family.
Our Back to School night picnic and the Parish
Festival last weekend were celebrations of family. Next Thursday, through the
combined efforts of Arts and Enrichment, Eagle PRIDE and the School Board, we
will celebrate family again. The Fort Wayne Zoomobile Program will be here for
our families. In addition to the zoo program, there are fun activities planned
for the students and their parents. Today’s packet has an informational flier
and reservation form. I am extending an invitation to everyone to please come
and join us. There will be animals, arts and crafts, and games for all ages.
Families are asked to bring a simple snack to share like animal crackers, ants
on a log, worms in dirt, goldfish crackers, etc.
Be creative. Laugh a little. Smile a lot.
We are slowing down a gear. We are celebrating
who we are. We are family.
We are so blessed.
Fall has arrived.
Together in Christ,
Mrs. Sandor
WELCOME TO OUR
STAFF
We welcome Mrs. Jeanine
Skordos to our school staff.
ELIGIBILITY
REINSTATEMNT
Friday, October 2.
Students need to see the office for appropriate forms.
ALL SCHOOL MASSES
Usually our all school
Mass will be celebrated on Fridays this year.
We would like our
students to become more involved in the liturgical music ministry. If your
child plays a musical instrument and would like to play during a school Mass,
please call the office or contact your child’s teacher.
If your child would like
to be a cantor, please contact the office or your child’s teacher.
CHESS CLUB
First organizational
meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 29 after school.
ART CLUB
First organizational
meeting will be Wednesday, October 7 after school.
PICTURE RETAKE DAY
We will have picture
retake day on Tuesday, September 29, in the church basement. Students who did not have their picture taken
in August will have their picture taken on Tuesday. If parents are not happy with their child’s
picture that was sent home last week, they may also have their picture retaken
on this day. If your child is having
their picture retaken, he/she must bring
the first package with them on retake day.
A package will not be ordered unless payment or the first picture
package is given at the time pictures are taken. Students may wear their dress up clothes to
school for pictures and then change into their school uniform after their
picture is taken.
VOLUNTEER BADGES
If you are a regular
volunteer at school and are available next Tuesday morning, we ask that you
come to get your picture taken so a volunteer badge can be made for you. Volunteers can go to the church basement
starting at 8:30 AM. We ask that you are
quiet as 8:15 Mass will be going on.
DISMISSAL CHANGES
We ask that parents of
younger students to please send a note to school if the dismissal procedure for
your child will change for that day. The
younger students often do not remember what mom or dad may have told them in
the morning and are very concerned at the end of the way as to “where they
should go.” A note to the teacher
indicating that the student has a change in their normal routine would be very
helpful.
THREE RIVERS GEM
AND MINERAL SHOW
The annual Three Rivers
Gem and Mineral Show will be held October 16-18 at the Allen Co.
Fairgrounds. If you have any questions
please call Michele Yamanaka at 427-2196.
BOXTOPS &
CAMPBELLS LABELS
Please continue to save
your Boxtops for Education labels for our school!! Please also tell your friends and relatives
to save them for us!! We earn $.10 for
each label we redeem!! That may not seem
like much individually but with everyone saving them for us, it really adds up
to a nice amount of money for us. This
is FREE MONEY for doing nothing but clipping a piece of paper!! The Boxtops can be sent into school at any
time. The money received benefits our
HASA organization which does many wonderful things for our school.
Please continue saving
the UPC from
Both of these programs
are great ways for everyone to contribute a little and the school becomes a big
winner!
FAMILY ZOO NIGHT
Please see the enclosed
flyer about our family zoo night next Thursday, October 1. We encourage families to come and enjoy a fun
family evening.
MAGAZINE FUNDRAISER
Our school will
participate in a QSP magazine postcard fundraiser on Tuesday, October 6. Students will simply bring home a set of
postcards to be addressed to family and friends. THESE ADDRESSES ARE ONLY USED
FOR MAGAZINES AND ARE NOT SOLD TO ANY OTHER COMPANY. QSP sends a small brochure to the addresses
given and your family and friends are given the opportunity to purchase new or
renew magazine subscriptions. Our school
then receives a check for 40% of all magazine subscriptions purchased. We have done extremely well on this
fundraiser over the past few years receiving over $2000 for very little effort
on our part. We ask that you again
participate with this fundraiser and help our school as much as you can.
8TH
GRADE STUDENTS
Our 8th grade
students will be attending a Youth Rally at
HASA HALLOWEEN
PARTY
Keep the date open!
Thursday, October 29 will be the HASA Halloween party. More information will be coming home!
MEDICINE
If at all possible, we encourage all medicine to be taken at
home; however, if it is necessary for students to take medicine during school hours we have a few guidelines that we
must follow. We first must have written
consent from the parent giving the school permission to dispense the
medicine. We need the name of the medicine, dosage, and
frequency. We have specific forms in the
office that need to be completed for medicine that is left at school. This applies to all medicine including
over-the-counter drugs, cough drops, cough syrup, etc.
AFTER SCHOOL CARE
This is a reminder that students not picked up by 3:15 PM will
be sent to our after school care program in room 105. Parents will then need to go to door 9 in the
culdesac and ring the doorbell. Someone
will let you in to get your children.
The cost of aftercare is $5.00 per child.
2 HOUR DELAYS
If FWCS has a 2 hour delay due to weather conditions,
